It All Starts With A Dream

A studio film made for no client but ourselves. It exists to find out how far the craft goes when nobody is holding the brief.
The subject is a 911 GT3 RS, built and rendered end to end in Blender: body, wheels, diffuser, lights and badge modelled to hold up in close-up, then shaded, lit and shot as if it were a real car on a real stage.
The film is cut alongside its own breakdown. We would rather show the scaffolding than pretend the shot arrived finished. The viewport, the node graph and the camera rig are as much the work as the final frame.

02 / Process

Reference & concept
Before any geometry, the shot is decided on paper: GT3 RS reference from every angle, studies of how automotive photographers stage a car at night, and a single mood to aim at - one car, one road, one light. Everything modelled later answers to this.

Modelling
The car is built in Blender from reference, panel by panel. Most of the effort goes where the camera lingers: the rear diffuser, the wheel spokes, the shut lines. Anything the lens never reaches stays cheap.

Shading
Materials are authored as node graphs rather than presets: a layered car paint with flake under clearcoat, a woven carbon fibre with real anisotropy, and a crest treated as its own small material study so the enamel reads correctly at macro distance.

Lighting
Lit like a photographic stage, not a scene. Large soft sources are shaped and angled to draw the highlight along the body line, because on a car the light is what describes the form. The geometry only carries it.

Camera
Moves are animated on a constrained path so the camera behaves like a rig rather than a free-flying viewport: slow, weighted passes, timed to land on the details the shading work was spent on.

Render and cut
Frames are rendered out, graded, and assembled against sound. The same project is then re-exported as a breakdown so each stage above can be seen doing its job.
